American Legion Post TX-0027 Elects New Officers

The veterans of the Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27 met Thursday, September 12th at the Legion Hall in San Saba. After the social a social hour and a meal of barbeque & red beans was served to 20 veterans and guests.

New officers for the 2024-2025 years were elected.

Ross J. Cox Sr. Adjutant/ Service officer

A short memorial service was held for two Legionaries.

Carl Maldonado was born on Jan. 31, 1945, in Green River Wyoming. After high school, he the US Army in 1963, and served in the 319th Artillery of the 173rd Airborne in Vietnam. He served in the Wyoming House of Representatives and later as a state senator. He was a member in good standing of this post for 24 years.

Gary Edward Farley was born December 29, 1944, and passed on September 4, 2024. Gary was born and raised in Dallas County, Texas and after completing high school he entered the US Air Force and served in Vietnam and Thailand. After the military he entered law enforcement and served with the Texas Department of Public Safety - Highway Patrol. Gary was a pursuit driving instructor for the many recruit classes in Austin. He later became chief deputy in Mills County and served as the district court bailiff in San Saba County. He was a member in good standing of this post for 8 years. The post charter will remain covered in their memory for the next 30 days.

At the American Legion Department Convention in August,there were several awards earned by the post;

The Commander received a special 100% pin, letter and award from the Texas Department Commander.
