MEMORIAL DAY

M ore than 1 million men and women have lost their lives defending America since the Revolutionary War. On this Day of Remembrance, let us pledge to preserve the memories of the fallen. While we are blessed and safely living a good life, we must never forget the sacrifices of those who never came home.
May they rest in peace.

• During  World War I  (April 6, 1917, to March 3, 1921);

  During  World War II  (September 8, 1939, to July 25, 1947);

  During any subsequent period of armed hostilities in which the U.S. was engaged before July 1, 1958; or After June 30, 1958, while:

  engaged in an action against a U.S. enemy; or

  engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or

  serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict in which the U.S. is not a belligerent party against an opposing armed force; or

  After March 28, 1973, as a result of:

  an international terrorist attack against the U.S. or a foreign nation friendly to the U.S., recognized as an attack by the Secretary of the Military Department concerned; or military operations while serving outside the U.S. (including the commonwealths, territories, and possessions of the U.S.), as part of a peacekeeping force.
