Origin: Post Executive Committee.
WHEREAS, Jeff Meurer enlisted in the Army in 1973 and Completed training at Ft Knox as an Armored crewman 11E.
WHEREAS, Jeff further as a 19D Air CAV light armor and deployed to Central America. Jeff was subsequently assigned to Ft Carson, Co with 3 ACR with a follow on assignment to 2AD at Ft Hood and subsequently assigned to Ft Knox as an instructor. He was next assigned to Ft Bliss with the 3 ACR.
WHEREAS, Jeff next served at Ft Hood with the 1st CAV and deployed to Iraq for Desert Storm as a 1st Sgt and earned his silver spurs. Upon completing the mission, he returned to Ft Hood and transitioned to the 4th ID in field artillery. He again deployed to Iraq earning his CIB (Combat Infantry Badge). He next went forward to Command Sgt Major (CSM)assignments with 4ID, and 1st CAV.
WHEREAS, Jeff was next assigned to Ft Sam Houston as a CSM for the Medical Brigade followed by a tour as CSM at the Pentagon.
WHEREAS, Jeff was next assigned to JSOP at MacDill AFB and followed that with Post CSM at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) where he served until his retirement in 2004
WHEREAS, Jeff retired to Bedford, Texas to provide support to his ailing mother. He immediately joined AL POST 379, in Bedford and in 2009 was appointed and then elected as 2nd Vice Commander for the post and was reelected to the position in 2010. In 2011 he was nominated and elected to 1st Vice Commander.
WHEREAS, Jeff was elected as Post Commander in 2012 and served in that position until 2014. He met membership goals the1st year and exceeded it the 2nd year. In 2014 through 2015 he was service Officer for the 12th District. He also served as the Department Parade chairman at the 2015 National convention
WHEREAS, With his Mother's death in 2016, he decided to return home to San Angelo TX and in 2017 transferred his membership to Smith-Bryant Post 572 and was immediately appointed as the Vice Commander. He was reelected in 2018 and 2019. Due to incapacitating injury to the commander, he assumed the role of commander in 2020 and was elected to that position in 2021 and 2022. Under his leadership the post increased its activity level and financial abilities significantly. For 2021-22 recruiting year the post exceeded both recruiting and membership goals. In 2022 he was instrumental in forming the new Auxillary 572 unit. In additional the commander sits on the boards of the ELKS Lodge 1880 and is the Veteran Rep on the executive board for the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce.
WHEREAS, Jeff has consistently been Legion Forward so that no veteran is left behind and continually works within the community as a volunteer.
RESOLVED, By Smith-Bryant Post 572 of the American Legion, Department of Texas in regular meeting assembled in San Angelo, Texas on October 10, 2022 that Jeff Meurer be nominated to assume the position of Commander, 21st District.
RESOLVED, that his extensive military history and his Legion accomplishments make him an outstanding candidate for the position of Commander, 21st District.
